The Crow Stole Fire
In old Cherokee stories, Crow volunteered for the arduous ocean flight to steal fire for humankind. In the process, he surrenders his snowy feathers and sweet morning song. Soot stained his body, smoke stole his music, and only a rough caw remains, echoing through our forests.
The crow’s hidden eyelid, the nictitating membrane, is a marvel of science. A clear shield that slides across the eye. Essentially, a natural pair of Ray-Bans tailored by evolution for the demands of flight. In a changing world, the American Crow endures with a population of about 30 million.
